NIGERIAN FOOTBALL HOUSE SHAKEN AS NFF PRESIDENT AND 7 OTHERS RESIGN

 It appears the crisis in Nigerian football has finally reached the people sitting inside the Glass House, as NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and several members of the federation’s board have reportedly resigned amid mounting pressure over the management of the country’s football.

The pressure intensified after the Super Falcons suffered a historic failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, ending Nigeria’s record of appearing at every edition since the competition began in 1991.

Their hopes were first damaged by a 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Cameroon at the 2026 WAFCON before South Africa eventually ended their World Cup hopes with a 2-1 playoff victory.

But the football crisis is not the only headache facing the NFF.

Security agencies are also reportedly scrutinising the federation’s handling of a ₦17 billion Federal Government intervention fund approved in 2024 for outstanding wages and bonuses owed to national team players.

The DSS is said to have requested documents showing how the funds released to the federation were utilised, although a source described the process as a normal financial review rather than a witch hunt.

With eight of the 13 board members reportedly already out, the situation could now create uncertainty around the September 27 NFF election scheduled to hold in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Nigerian football has therefore entered another uncomfortable chapter, because when eight people leave the football house at once, the biggest question is no longer who is playing on the pitch.

It is who will still be inside the Glass House when the final whistle blows. 😭⚽
