Nigeria Student Tortured To Death Over Missing iPhone 16

 



Sometimes the most dangerous court is not the one inside a courtroom but the one people create in their own minds. That is the painful lesson emerging from Jos, Nigeria, where a young university student reportedly lost his life after fellow students decided to play detective, prosecutor, judge and executioner over nothing more than the disappearance of an iPhone 16.

The victim, identified as Ibrahim Pilasar Mbaya, was a student of the University of Jos and also a model known by friends as cheerful and easygoing. According to reports, Ibrahim had spent Saturday night at a friend's off campus apartment located behind the City of David in the Ring Road area of Jos, Plateau State.

By Sunday morning, everything reportedly changed after his host claimed an iPhone 16 had gone missing. Since only the two of them had slept in the room, Ibrahim was immediately accused of stealing the phone.

Instead of contacting the police or allowing investigators to establish the facts, those present allegedly took the law into their own hands. What followed has sparked widespread outrage across Nigeria.

Videos circulating online reportedly show Ibrahim tied up, suspended and repeatedly assaulted while those around him watched. In another disturbing scene, he was allegedly forced to transfer water from one bucket into another using nothing more than a teaspoon despite already being badly beaten and struggling to remain conscious.

Sources claimed the torture continued for hours as he was humiliated, degraded and physically abused, all over an allegation that had not been proven. Somewhere along the line, an accusation became a conviction and suspicion became a death sentence without a single day in court.

According to accounts from people familiar with the incident, Ibrahim was eventually locked inside a room after the prolonged assault. A nurse was reportedly invited to examine him and allegedly confirmed that he had already died.

Those involved were then said to have attempted to move his body to the Accident and Emergency Unit of Jos University Teaching Hospital in what witnesses described as an effort to make the tragedy appear like a medical emergency. That plan reportedly ended after police were alerted before it could be carried out.

The incident has attracted strong reactions, including from Prince Miaphen, who condemned the killing and described Ibrahim as a friendly and jovial young model whose life was cut short in the most brutal manner.

He questioned how fellow students could allegedly beat someone to death over an unproven accusation while also expressing disappointment that opportunities to alert others during the ordeal were reportedly ignored.

The tragedy has since triggered outrage among students, residents and social media users, many of whom are demanding a thorough investigation and the prosecution of everyone connected to the alleged torture and death.

As of the latest reports, the University of Jos had not released an official statement on the incident. The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command reportedly declined to comment when contacted and later became unreachable, leaving many questions unanswered as calls for justice continue to grow.

It is astonishing how an expensive phone can apparently become more valuable than a human life. An iPhone can always be replaced, but a son, a friend and a future never comes back once a mob decides that evidence is optional and humanity is negotiable.
