Ugandan singer-turned-politician Nubian Li, a close ally of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, was arrested shortly after submitting his nomination papers for Nakawa Division mayor.
Police, who had stationed themselves outside the Electoral Commission offices in Ntinda, quickly detained him and transported him under heavy security to an undisclosed location. The move has stirred widespread political debate and concern.
His arrest comes amid heightened tensions following the detention of other NUP members, including Alex Mufumbiro, over a controversial military-style parade held months earlier.
Supporters of Nubian Li have condemned the arrest, demanding clarity on his whereabouts and accusing authorities of using intimidation tactics against political aspirants during Uganda’s nomination period.
