Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany says his blood is ‘boiling’ after star player Jamal Musiala suffers horror leg injury

Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala has suffered a serious leg injury during his team's 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup quarterfinal on Saturday. The 22-year-old sustained a fracture along with a broken and dislocated ankle after a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the first half. Musiala went down screaming in pain as players from both teams turned away in shock, many visibly distressed by the severity of the injury.

Manager Vincent Kompany was deeply emotional after the game, saying his blood was “boiling”  not due to the result, but because of what happened to Musiala. “I’ve rarely been so angry at halftime,” Kompany told reporters. “This isn’t just football to these guys  it’s their life. Jamal lives for this game. He just came back from a setback, and now this happens. It’s devastating.”

Bayern confirmed that Musiala has returned to Munich from Orlando and will soon undergo surgery. The club has not announced a timeline for his recovery, but it is expected to be a lengthy absence. PSG’s Donnarumma shared his support via social media, posting, “All my prayers and well wishes are with you, Jamal.”

Musiala is widely regarded as one of the most promising young footballers in the world. Since his debut in 2020, he has helped Bayern win five Bundesliga titles, three German Cups, and the Champions League. He was also named Germany’s Player of the Year in 2024, earning praise for his creativity, composure, and impact on the pitch.

Following the devastating injury to Jamal Musiala, Bayern Munich’s leadership and players have expressed deep concern and rallied around the young star. Board member Max Eberl highlighted the massive impact the injury will have  not just on the team’s tactics but emotionally as well. “This hits FC Bayern,” Eberl said. “Everyone knows how immensely important Jamal is to our game. He plays a central role for us.”

Eberl emphasized the human cost of the injury, noting that Musiala had only recently recovered from a previous setback. “Now he’ll be out for a long time again,” he said. “We’ll support him intensively, stand by him, and we’re already looking forward to when he’s back on the pitch.”

The mood around the Bayern camp remains somber, not only because of the Club World Cup exit but because of the emotional weight of losing such a vibrant and critical player. Teammates and fans alike are sending well wishes, with many pointing to Musiala’s resilience and determination as reasons to believe he’ll bounce back stronger.

Musiala’s rise through the ranks at Bayern has been meteoric. Making his debut at 17, he quickly became an irreplaceable part of the team. Known for his dribbling, flair, and intelligence, he has become a fan favorite and an essential figure in the German national team.

With surgery ahead and months of rehabilitation expected, Bayern will have to adapt without their attacking lynchpin. Still, Kompany and the club have vowed to give Musiala all the support he needs on his road to recovery. His absence will be deeply felt  but so will the strength of the support he receives.
