Auta, a widely feared terrorist, has become a focal point of national discussion in Nigeria following his elimination during a strategic military operation, codenamed Operation Fasan Yamma (OPFY), conducted by the Mobile Strike Team (MST) in Ƙunchin Kalgo town, located in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The operation, carried out on June 10, not only resulted in Auta’s death but also led to the neutralization of his close associates, Abdul Jamilu, Salisu, and Sale Ado Madele, the eldest son of notorious bandit leader Ado Alieru. This decisive action has been hailed as a major victory in the fight against banditry in Nigeria’s northwest region.
According to Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, the military spokesman, Auta and his gang were linked to a series of heinous acts, including kidnappings, murders, and other forms of terrorism that terrorized communities across Zamfara and neighboring states. The operation underscores the military’s intensified efforts to dismantle bandit networks that have long disrupted peace and security in the region. Local residents and social media users have expressed a mix of relief, jubilation, and gratitude toward the MST for their bravery and success in targeting these high-profile criminals, marking a significant step toward restoring safety and stability in the affected areas.
