Liverpool have agreed a sensational £116m deal to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen!

The move sees the Premier League champions pay a guaranteed £100m, with £16m in performance-based add-ons. If triggered, this could set a new British record transfer fee. For now, that title still belongs to Chelsea’s £107m signing of Enzo Fernandez.

The 21-year-old Wirtz, a creative attacking midfielder, has lit up the Bundesliga since debuting at just 17. With 57 goals in 197 appearances, he was instrumental in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic 2024 Bundesliga title win.

Manchester City and Bayern Munich were also interested but were priced out, giving Liverpool the edge.

This blockbuster signing is the latest move in Arne Slot’s ambitious summer window. Wirtz will become the second player to arrive from Leverkusen after right-back Jeremie Frimpong joined for £34m.

Wirtz has also made an impression on the international stage, with 7 goals in 31 appearances for Germany since 2021.

🔥 Huge statement from Liverpool — they’re not just defending their Premier League crown, they’re aiming for European domination.

With the capture of Florian Wirtz for a potential £116m, Liverpool are showing serious intent under manager Arne Slot following their 2024-25 Premier League triumph.

The Reds have spent wisely in past windows, which helped them go big this summer. Alongside Wirtz, Leverkusen’s right-back Jeremie Frimpong has arrived in a £34m deal, and talks are ongoing for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez for a fee between £45m and £50m.

Last summer, Liverpool were conservative bringing in Italy winger Federico Chiesa for £12.5m and Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for £29m. But this summer, they’re going all in.

Wirtz brings incredible versatility. He can operate centrally or drift inside from the left. His ability to break defensive lines, find tight spaces, and deliver key passes makes him a dangerous playmaker. He also has an eye for goal and is relentless without the ball.

Former coach Edu Rubio praised Wirtz’s intelligence, technical ability, and hard-working nature. The only question is whether he can quickly adjust to the faster and more physical Premier League.

Still, Liverpool are betting big and smart. With young, dynamic talents like Wirtz and Frimpong joining an already successful squad, the Reds look primed to stay at the top.
