Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kipchumba Murkomen has drawn significant attention in Kenya for his strong statements regarding the June 25, 2025, protests, which he characterized as a calculated, well-funded, and politically driven effort to undermine the government. In a press briefing, Murkomen rejected the notion that the demonstrations were peaceful, instead branding them as “terrorism disguised as dissent.” He accused the organizers of orchestrating attacks on critical state institutions, including attempts to destabilize key government installations.
Murkomen commended the police for exercising restraint in the face of what he described as extreme provocation, highlighting their role in preventing further chaos. He revealed that the protests resulted in significant damage, with nine police stations attacked, several set ablaze, and over 80 police vehicles destroyed. According to Murkomen, the violence was not spontaneous but a coordinated effort aimed at overthrowing government authority.
The Interior Cabinet Secretary announced that investigations are underway to identify and prosecute those responsible for planning and financing the unrest. He emphasized that no one, regardless of their political or financial influence, would be spared from accountability. Murkomen’s remarks have sparked widespread discussion in Kenya, as he vowed to restore order and ensure justice for those affected by the destructive protests.
