In Uganda’s Obongi District, the local Security Committee has issued a seven-day eviction notice to Balaalo herders, accusing them of illegal grazing and land encroachment. The directive aligns with President Yoweri Museveni’s Executive Order No. 2 of 2025, aimed at regulating livestock movement and addressing land disputes in Northern Uganda.
In response, over 300 Balaalo herders have filed a lawsuit in the High Court, seeking an injunction to halt the evictions. They argue that the order violates their constitutional rights, denies them a fair hearing, and disregards their investments and contributions to the local economy. The herders claim the eviction process lacks proper verification of their land ownership, escalating tensions in the region.
