(In South Africa) Floyd Shivambu Removed as MK Party SG After Prophet Bushiri Controversy

Floyd Shivambu, the former Secretary-General of South Africa's uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, has been removed from his position after a controversy surrounding his meeting with self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri in Malawi.

The visit was not authorised by party leadership and allegedly violated MK’s constitutional rules.

Shivambu has now been redeployed to Parliament, with the party stating his legislative experience will be useful as MK prepares to serve in opposition.

The controversy surrounds Shepherd Bushiri, who fled South Africa in 2020 while facing serious criminal charges.

His meeting with Shivambu, a high-ranking MK official, has sparked criticism within political and religious circles. Analysts suggest the incident exposes rifts within the MK Party. Shivambu, formerly of the EFF, had only recently joined MK in 2024.
