China expresses deep concern about Israel's attacks on Iran, urges de-escalation In the aftermath of Israeli strikes on Iran, China has voiced its deep concern and called for restraint to maintain regional peace and stability. A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson stated that China opposes any infringement upon Iran’s sovereignty, security, or territorial integrity and is against the escalation of tensions and conflicts in the region. The spokesperson, Lin Jian, emphasized that a sudden rise in regional tensions is not in the interests of any party and expressed China’s readiness to play a constructive role in easing the situation.
Israel launched large-scale strikes against Iran on Friday, claiming they were part of a prolonged operation to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons. Iran responded by promising a harsh retaliatory response, with reports indicating that Israel is working to intercept around 100 drones launched towards its territory. The situation has heightened fears of wider conflict, especially given the strategic alliances involved, with China highlighting its friendly ties to Iran andits interest in energy security through Iran’s oil exports, as well as its broader influence efforts across the Middle East to rival U.S. interests. Earlier on Friday, the Chinese embassies in both Israel and Iran issued advisories to their citizens warning of the "complex and severe" security situation. The embassy in Tel Aviv specifically warned Chinese nationals in Israel to prepare for potential missile, rocket, and drone attacks amid rising hostilities. This call for caution comes amid escalating military actions and diplomatic warnings as regional tensions continue to mount.
