(In South African) Rabada free to return to cricket after drugs ban

South African cricket fans, rejoice! Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is cleared to return to competitive cricket after serving a one month suspension for recreational drug use. The 29 year old tested positive during the SA20 tournament on January 21, 2025, and was notified of the result on April 1 while playing for Gujarat Titans in the IPL. Initially facing a three month ban, Rabada’s sanction was reduced, allowing him to complete his penalty swiftly.

Rabada left the IPL on April 3, with Gujarat Titans citing personal reasons for his departure. During his suspension, he completed an educational program mandated by the South African Institute for Drug Free Sport to prevent future substance abuse. His commitment to the program and compliance with regulations have paved the way for his comeback.

The fiery pacer rejoined the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on May 3 and is available for their crucial IPL clash against Mumbai Indians on May 6. Fans can expect Rabada to bring his trademark intensity to the crease, bolstering the Titans’ bowling attack as they push for a strong finish in the tournament.

Looking ahead, Rabada is also set to play a key role for South Africa in the World Test Championship final against Australia, starting June 11 at Lord’s. His return is a massive boost for the Proteas, who will rely on his pace and experience to challenge the Aussies. With his ban behind him and a renewed focus, Rabada is ready to make headlines for all the right reasons. Welcome back, KG! Let’s see those stumps fly!
