A landmark High Court ruling in Kenya has barred Safaricom, Airtel, the government, and the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) from implementing future internet shutdowns without judicial oversight. The decision stems from a legal challenge by civil society groups, including the International Commission of Jurists (Kenya Section) and the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE), who contested the legality of past internet disruptions.

The petitioners argue that such shutdowns infringe on fundamental rights, including freedom of expression and access to information.
