Director of Gaza Humanitarian Foundation Resigns Over Lack of Independence Jake Wood, the executive director of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation—an U.S.-backed organization tasked with aid distribution in Gaza—resigned on Sunday, citing concerns over the organization’s lack of independence. Wood, a former U.S. Marine, emphasized that he could not support the foundation’s inability to adhere to core humanitarian principles of neutrality, impartiality, humanity, and independence. The foundation, established in February, has faced criticism from the United Nations, which warned that its aid distribution plan could lead to forced displacement of Palestinians and escalate violence. The plan involved private companies delivering aid into Gaza through limited secure sites, a method initiated by Israel rather than traditional aid agencies.
Wood had previously requested Israel to allow aid to flow through existing channels until the foundation’s infrastructure was operational and declared that the organization would not share personal information of aid recipients with Israeli authorities. His resignation underscores ongoing tensions and concerns over aid delivery mechanisms amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. As of now, no humanitarian aid has been delivered to Gaza since March 2, and a worsening humanitarian crisis persists, with fears that half a million residents face starvation.
