Russia Intercepts Hundreds of Ukrainian Drones in Southern Regions.

Russia Reports Destruction of 158 Drones Amid Major Ukrainian Drone Attack Ukraine conducted a significant overnight drone offensive against Russia, disrupting flights in the southern region and prompting the evacuation of residents from numerous apartments in the Rostov region, according to Russian officials. The Russian Defense Ministry announced via its Telegram channel that air defense units successfully destroyed 158 Ukrainian drones overnight, with 29 of those intercepted over the Rostov region.

The ministry further reported that 69 drones were destroyed in the Krasnodar region in Russia's North Caucasus, and an additional 15 were taken down over North Ossetia–Alania, also in southern Russia. The Russian Defense Ministry provided the number of drones destroyed but did not disclose how many were launched.

In response to the attack, Russia’s civil aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, announced the temporary closure of several airports in the southern parts of the country to maintain air safety.

There was no immediate response from Ukraine regarding the drone strikes. Both nations have claimed that their military actions are focused on targeting infrastructure crucial to their respective war efforts.

Kyiv maintains that its attacks are a retaliation for Moscow's ongoing bombardment of Ukraine, which has persisted since the full-scale invasion began more than three years ago.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who took office in January and promised to end the war within 24 hours, has been attempting to mediate a resolution. In late March, the U.S. reported agreements with Russia and Ukraine on two ceasefire accords, one of which would prohibit strikes against each other's energy infrastructure.
