Maldives President Signs Law Prohibiting Israelis from Entry

The Maldives has officially banned Israeli citizens from entering the country, following President Mohamed Muizzu's ratification of the third amendment to the Immigration Law. This move is in response to Israel's "ongoing atrocities and acts of genocide against the Palestinian people". The country's stance is clear in its solidarity with Palestine, condemning Israel's actions.

The new law prohibits entry to all holders of Israeli passports, regardless of the purpose of their visit. However, Israeli passport holders with dual citizenship can still enter the country using their other passport. This exception allows for some flexibility, but the ban remains a strong statement against Israel's policies.

The Maldives and Israel do not maintain diplomatic relations, and this move further strains ties between the two nations. The ban may also impact tourism, with the Israeli government advising its citizens against travel to the Maldives. The country's decision reflects its commitment to promoting and protecting Palestinian rights on international platforms.

The law is expected to remain in effect indefinitely, positioning the Maldives as an outspoken critic of Israeli policies. This move aligns with Muslim-majority nations calling for international action against Israel's actions in Palestine. The Maldives' stance is likely to have implications for its relationships with other countries, particularly those with strong ties to Israel.
