In Uganda: Sheikh Hasina Faces Extradition Calls Amid Diplomatic Tensions.

Sheikh Hasina is trending in Uganda and other parts of East Africa because of renewed diplomatic tensions following her ousting in August 2024. As former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, she now faces calls for extradition from interim leader Muhammad Yunus, who met with India’s Prime Minister Modi in Thailand. Hasina’s exile in India and her alleged incitement against the caretaker government have drawn regional and global attention.

Yunus, leading Bangladesh’s caretaker government until the 2026 elections, pressed Modi to curb Hasina’s inflammatory remarks and support extradition efforts. Modi, while urging moderation in rhetoric, stopped short of committing to her return. The meeting, described as warm yet diplomatically cautious, underscored shifting alliances, Bangladesh’s growing ties with China and Pakistan signal a cooling of the historically close India-Bangladesh relationship under Hasina’s rule.
