Two teenagers lost their lives in a clash between fans and police before Colo Colo’s Copa Libertadores match against Fortaleza at Monumental Stadium.


A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded outside Monumental Stadium in Santiago, Chile, before a Copa Libertadores match between Chilean club Colo Colo and Brazilian side Fortaleza. Two teenagers, reportedly aged 13 and 18, died following a violent confrontation between fans and police.


The incident began when authorities blocked approximately 100 fans from entering the stadium, sparking chaos and fighting. According to local prosecutor Francisco Morales, a fence collapsed and crushed the two victims. An investigation is underway to determine whether a police vehicle contributed to the deaths, with authorities actively examining the circumstances.

Police General Alex Bahamondes confirmed that one officer has been charged in connection to the incident, and statements from witnesses and others involved are being collected to clarify the sequence of events. Conmebol, the governing body for South American football, issued a statement expressing profound sorrow for the loss of the young fans. The organization extended condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones, pledging to forward all relevant details about the events, both inside and outside the stadium, to its disciplinary committee for a thorough review.
