Hamas Ready To Release All Remaining Hostages for End to Gaza War, Hamas' Gaza Chief Says
Hamas' Gaza chief, Khalil Al-Hayya, has announced that the group is ready to negotiate a deal to release all remaining hostages in exchange for an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, within a broader agreement to end the Gaza war. In a televised speech, Al-Hayya stated that Hamas refuses interim truce deals, criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government for using partial agreements to further their agenda of continuing the war. According to Al-Hayya, Hamas believes that Netanyahu's government prioritizes its political agenda over hostage welfare. The group had accepted a mediator's proposal to release some hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and begin talks on implementing a ceasefire agreement. However, Al-Hayya claimed that Israel countered with "impossible conditions." Efforts by Egyptian mediators to revive the January ceasefire agreement have made little progress, with both sides blaming each other for the lack of a deal. The latest round of talks in Cairo ended without a breakthrough, according to Palestinian and Egyptian sources.
