A 5-year-old Florida boy allegedly died after drinking apple juice laced with methamphetamine, and his mother, Heather Opsincs, 37, is facing a negligent manslaughter charge. According to Riviera Beach police, Opsincs left a plastic apple juice bottle with methamphetamine inside it open in her hotel room fridge, which her son later drank from, leading to his accidental overdose death.
The boy began "shivering and shaking" before becoming stiff and unresponsive, and Opsincs waited an hour to call 911 after being informed of her son's condition. Paramedics responded and provided medical attention, but the boy was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Opsincs tested positive for methamphetamine, and police found drug paraphernalia, including six meth pipes and two plastic apple juice bottles, in her hotel room.
Opsincs is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail on a $100,000 bond and is due back in court on April 22. At her pretrial detention hearing, Judge April Bristow described the case as "pretty egregious" and allowed Opsincs to be released on bond if she refrains from contacting two witnesses and does not speak with anyone under 18, except her daughter.
