GFP’s Roman Fada disqualified from contesting in presidential elections; THE END OF GFP?

The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has been dealt a devastating blow with the disqualification of its presidential candidate, Philip Appiah Kubi, also known as Roman Fada, from the 2024 presidential election . This decision comes after the Electoral Commission (EC) found irregularities in Kubi's nomination forms, specifically a failure to comply with the requirement for two registered voters from each district to endorse the form of a presidential candidate .

Akua Donkor, the GFP's original presidential candidate, passed away on October 28, 2024, at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital . Following her death, the EC granted the GFP until November 8, 2024, to nominate a replacement. Roman Fada, a broadcaster with Peace FM, was selected to fill the presidential slot, but unfortunately, his nomination forms were fraught with errors .

Consequences of Disqualification

The disqualification of the GFP means that the printing of presidential ballot papers will move forward as planned, with no changes to the positions of the candidates . Akua Donkor's image and party symbol will still appear on the ballot paper in the third position, as originally assigned before her passing. However, any votes cast for Madam Akua Donkor will be annulled .
