Traditionally referred to as "Enkutatash", The Ethiopian New Year is celebrated yearly on September 11 and on September 12 for a leap year, a calculation obtained from the country's adaptation of the Gregorian calendar. Enkutatash, which means "gift of jewels," marks the end of the rainy season and the beginning of a new year, symbolizing renewal and hope. This celebration has ancient roots, linked to the Queen of Sheba's return from her famous journey to visit King Solomon in Jerusalem. Upon her return, her chiefs welcomed her with jewels, hence the name.
