Randy Waldrum has resigned as the coach of the Super Falcons.

Randy Waldrum has stepped down as the head coach of Nigeria's Super Falcons, citing his wife's deteriorating health as the reason for his resignation . In his resignation letter dated September 12, 2024, Waldrum shared that the challenges of balancing his family life with his coaching duties have become too much to handle . He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the team and highlighted the incredible squad he's leaving behind .

“It’s been a very difficult few weeks following the Olympics, with my wife’s health issues, and the worries that obviously come with that. After much thought and consideration.

”I am hereby resigning my position as Head Coach of the Super Falcons. This will allow the NFF ample time to find the next manager to take over this incredible squad.”

During his four-year tenure, Waldrum guided the Super Falcons to some notable achievements, including a fourth-place finish at the 2022 Africa Women's Nations Cup in Morocco and a respectable showing at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, where they bowed out on penalties to England in the Round of 16 .

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is now on the hunt for not one, but two head coaches - one for the Super Falcons and another for the men's senior team, the Super Eagles. Randy Waldrum, the former coach of the Super Falcons, resigned due to personal reasons . This sudden departure has put the NFF in a challenging position, especially with upcoming international competitions and qualifiers.

As for the Super Eagles, the NFF had previously considered Janne Andersson for the position, but talks broke down over his availability and contract with a media company . However, it seems Finidi George has been unveiled as the new Super Eagles coach in May, putting an end to the search for the men's team head coach .

Now, the focus shifts to finding a suitable replacement for the Super Falcons. The NFF will need to act swiftly to ensure the team's success in future competitions. With Waldrum's impressive record, including leading the Super Falcons to a fourth-place finish at the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations and a round of 16 finish at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup , the new coach will have big shoes to fill.

The search is on, and Nigerians are eagerly waiting to see who will take the reins and lead the Super Falcons to victory!
