Oyo State Governor Upgrades Domestic Airport to International Airport

 Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, has officially flagged off the 41 billion naira upgrade of the Ibadan Airport renamed Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, to international standards. The international airport's groundbreaking ceremony which had governor of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke, in attendance as guest of honour, held on Wednesday 18th September, 2024, at the airport located in the Alakia area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital. The project which is expected to be completed in 12 months, aims at enhancing air travel operation in Oyo state. The flag-off comes a few weeks after the governor inaugurated an 11-man committee set up to oversee the delivery of the project. The committee is headed by a former Commissioner for Finance, Mr Bimbo Adekanmbi.

Speaking of the project, guest of honour, governor Adeleke, described governor Seyi Makinde as a “true actualiser” of development projects. The Osun state governor further expressed willingness to collaborate with Oyo state to explore mutually beneficial opportunities for both states. Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who was another special guest, acting manager of The Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Francis Balogun, said the project would stimulate the state’s economy, creating jobs and attracting investment.
