A man named Marcellus Williams has been executed by the state of Missouri after spending 23 years on death row. In 2001, Marcellus Williams was sentenced to death for the 1998 murder of 42 year old reporter Felicia Gayle "Lisha" Picus, who was found dead in her home, having been stabbed and cut 43 times with a butcher's knife taken from her kitchen. Marcellus was arrested and convicted based on the testimonies of two witnesses who claimed he confessed to the crime. The now executed inmate received capital punishment despite repeated proclamation of his innocence and new evidence consisting of the discovery of three separate DNA at the murder scene.

Despite Felicia Picus' family repeatedly stating that they did not want Williams to be executed and his earlier acceptance of a plea bargain commuting his death sentence to life in prison, Marcellus Williams was executed (after numerous stays) by lethal injection at 6:00.p.m on 24th September, 2024. The 55 year old condemned man's execution took place at the state prison in Bonne Terre after his attorney filed a series of appeals which were subsequently denied by The US Supreme Court. His last statement was “All Praise Be To Allah In Every Situation", a statement which has now go viral on social media with The US government receiving heavy backlash for the murder of an "innocent man".
