Ex-Arsenal player charged with attempting to smuggle £600k of cannabis into UK

 Former Arsenal player Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has been charged with attempting to smuggle £600,000 worth of cannabis into the UK. According to reports, Emmanuel-Thomas, 32, was arrested at Heathrow Airport after arriving from St. Lucia.



Emmanuel-Thomas began his career at Arsenal, winning trophies with the youth team, but struggled to secure a regular place in the first team and was sent out on loan to several lower-division clubs . He later played for Ipswich Town, Bristol City, Queens Park Rangers, and other teams .


The arrest is linked to the discovery of around 60kg of cannabis in two suitcases that arrived from Bangkok last month . Two women were also arrested and charged in connection with the incident .



Emmanuel-Thomas is expected to appear before Carlisle Magistrates' Court today . His club, Greenock Morton, has declined to comment on the matter.


The National Crime Agency (NCA) alleges that Emmanuel-Thomas was in possession of 30 kilograms of cannabis. He has been charged with importing a controlled drug and will appear in court soon.



Emmanuel-Thomas played for Arsenal from 2008 to 2011, making several appearances for the first team. He later played for various clubs, including Ipswich Town, Bristol City, and QPR.
