The Incorporated Trustees of The Ikeja Computer Village Market Traders and Stakeholders Joint Management, have issued a warning letter to Iyaloja General of Lagos and first daughter of Nigeria, Chief Mrs. Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, to cease interfering in the market's affairs. Citing an earlier judgment from the Lagos State High Court granted on Tuesday 8th December 2020 which Mrs Folasade Tinubu-Ojo-who has held the Iyaloja position since 2013 shortly after the death of her grandmother, the former Iyaloja- has repeatedly failed to adhere to, the traders via Falana & Falana Chambers, issued a fresh cease and desist notice to The Iyaloja General. Other major markets in the state shut down many businesses on Monday 2nd September in an expression of solidarity with the traders at The Computer Village Market.
The new notice drafted on 28th August 2024, addresses multiple rights violation by The Iyaloja, including unauthorized levy collection, extortion and the instigation of personal thugs/louts. The cease and desist letter addressed to The Iyaloja emphasized that only authorized members of the market’s executive have the right to intervene in its affairs.
The ongoing tussle between The Iyaloja General and the Computer Village traders comes amidst the reiterated resolve of The Lagos State Government to relocate The Computer Village Market Ikeja to Katangua Market in Abule-Egba. The relocation process is expected to be completed within the next two years with the government citing the purely residential status of the current location as a solid reason for the proposed move.
