Man Convicted for Impersonation and Romance Scam

A man identified as Solomon Martins has been convicted and sentenced to a prison term of one year by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, on charges of fraudulent impersonation. Details of Solomon Martin's conviction was publicly released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on its official social media account. The commission stated that Martins was arraigned by its Lagos Zonal Command on a two-count charge.

According to the charges levelled against him and which he pled guilty to, Solomon Martin had fraudulently impersonated a certain ''John Scott'', a white military male from London, United Kingdom, to unsuspecting members of the public via Gmail correspondence and circulation of falsified photo images. The fraudulent impersonation is contrary to and punishable under Section 22(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015. Delivering judgement, C.J. Aneke, sentenced Solomon Martin to a prison term of one year with a fine option of N1,500,000 as well as 100 hours in community service. The judge further compelled that the accused's mobile phone be forfeited to the Federal Government.
