A 21 year old young man identified as Adejimi Adepoju, was taken to an Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Ile-Ife, for defrauding a phone seller on 3rd April im his store located at New Market, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, when he bought a mobile phone and paid for the device with a fake bank transfer. Speaking to the court, the prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi, alleged that the defendant collected a mobile phone( an iPhone XR) worth N180,000 and paid for the item with a fake money transfer. The fraudulent deed is contrary to and punishable under Section 157 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
Requesting bail of his client, defense counsel, Samuel Obi, assured the court that his client had no intention of jumping bail and would provide reliable sureties. Adjourning the case for 16 May, Magistrate Taofeek Badmus granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. The magistrate added that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and that one of the sureties must be the defendant’s blood relation. Magistrate Badmus further declared that the second surety must possess a three-year tax clearance certificate and their addresses must be verified by the prosecutor.
