A middle-aged woman identified as Imaobong Sampson Francis, has been arrested and paraded by operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police for staging her own kidnap and requesting the sum of four million naira as ransom for her supposed release. Speaking at a press conference which held in Uyo, the state capital, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, revealed that the first report of Imaobong Sampson's alleged abduction was first lodged at the police station on 11 March 2024, by her sister, Enobong Sampson, who claimed that her sister, Imaobong, had been kidnapped and the kidnappers demanding a sum of 4 million naira for her release.

The Police CP further narrated that upon swinging into action and tracking down the alleged victim, On March 12, 2024, at about 23:15 hrs, she was discovered alongside her boyfriend Beltus Ebong, in a hideout located in Mbierebe Obio, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA. Rigorous police interrogation led to Imaobong Sampson confessing to have planned her "kidnap" with the help of her boyfriend and three others, in order to extort money from an aunt who lives abroad.
