Following the release of a now viral video where a Caucasian student was caught physically harassing and bullying a black schoolmate, The Cumbria County Police has confirmed the arrest of the white student. The incident of bullying and physical assault which stirred a great deal of public and social media outcry, occurred at the St John Henry Newman School, Carlisle, where both teenagers are registered students of the school.

Reacting to the video where the white student had been captured hitting his black schoolmate and ordering him to kiss his shoes while other students cheered in the background, The Cumbria Police in a statement posted on its official Facebook page wrote: "We can confirm officers have arrested a teenage boy in relation to a report of a hate incident involving a boy being assaulted in Carlisle. Officers are aware of images relating to this incident being circulated online and concerns in the community over the incident. As an arrest has been made we would urge people not to share the video further so as not to impede any legal proceedings or to identify any of the children involved.
