Photos: Anambra Community Parade Man For Killing Monkey

Some indigenes of Awka, Anambra State, on Wednesday, March 6, apprehended a man for the prohibited act of killing a monkey, a sacred animal in their culture.

The man, residing in Awka for 24 years, confessed in a widely shared video that he was well aware of the cultural taboo against harming monkeys.

He clarified that his intention was not to target the revered animal; rather, he had set a trap in the bush to catch other wildlife, inadvertently capturing a monkey.

Pleading for mercy, he expressed remorse and requested not to be harmed, offering to go wherever the community deemed fit.

He begged for mercy saying: “I know I have committed, please do not kill me, but you can take me anywhere you want.”

The community decided to spare his life but emphasized that necessary measures would be taken to appease the local deity and prevent any potential repercussions.
