Lawyer Charged to Court for Refusing to Pay Sex Worker

 A 26 year old lawyer identified as Emmanuel Ekunife, resident in Jahi Abuja, was on Wednesday 13 March, dragged to court by a sex worker for allegedly refusing to pay her for service rendered. The sex worker, Queeneth John, had also accused the defendant of physical assault as well as instigating trouble at the police station by making several video recordings as well inciting remarks to the law enforcement officers after he was arrested.

Narrating her ordeal, the sex worker who plys her trade at Wuse Zone 5, revealed that Emmanuel Ekunife had approached her at about 10:00pm on March 11, he had afterwards taken her to Banex Plaza where he had convinced her to have sexual relations with him with the promise of making payment after the deed. The sex worker claimed that he had refused to pay her(the agreed sum of 50,000 naira) for her services after coitus was over but had instead, chose to hurt her physically.

Sitting Judge, Aliyu Kagarko, granted Emmanuel bail in the sum of N1 million, with a surety of similar amount. The bail conditions required the surety to be a legal practitioner with at least five years of experience, possessing a valid call to bar certificate, and residing within the court’s jurisdiction. The judge also adjourned proceedings until 18 April, 2024.
