Lagos Assembly Tells Safety Corps To Prepare For State Police

The Lagos State House of Assembly has conveyed a directive to the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA), urging them to proactively prepare for the imminent establishment of state police. This guidance was delivered during a working visit by the Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Security, and Strategy, Stephen Ogundipe, along with other committee members, to the LNSA office on a recent Monday.

In the statement released by the agency on the same day, Ogundipe commended the management of the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency and its Corps, led by General Manager Ifalade Oyekan, for their substantial progress. While acknowledging their improved service delivery and exemplary approach to community policing, Ogundipe emphasized the need for continued diligence, urging the agency not to become complacent as it readies the corps for the impending introduction of state police.

Highlighting the agency's pivotal role, Ogundipe noted that it serves as a trailblazer for other similar organizations in the realm of community policing.

This directive aligns with broader national discussions on enhancing security, with a recent development involving President Bola Tinubu's agreement with 36 state governors in February. During an emergency meeting, they resolved to establish a committee tasked with formulating the modalities for the implementation of state police, aiming to address the escalating security challenges across the nation.

In response to the directive, LNSA's General Manager, Oyekan, expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment to the safety of lives and properties in the state.

Describing this commitment as the driving force behind the agency's pursuit of excellence, Oyekan affirmed the agency's determination to fulfill its mandate within the framework of the governor's T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda.

Acknowledging the continuous legislative and oversight support from the Lagos State House of Assembly, the visiting committee, and Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, Oyekan emphasized the agency's dedication to aligning with the governor's agenda.

As the nation awaits the outcomes of the committee's efforts in shaping the landscape of state police, this development underscores the ongoing efforts to address and combat the prevailing security concerns on both regional and national levels.
