Inflation: Prices of Sugar, Indomie, Others Reportedly Drop

Nigerians, especially those with lower to middle incomes, have faced challenges due to a nationwide surge in food prices linked to sharp inflation and economic pressures.

In January 2024, inflation peaked at an unprecedented 29.90%, and food inflation rose by 3.21%, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

However, recent market surveys indicate a drop in prices for various food items, including popular ones like Indomie Instant Noodles.

For example, a 40-pack carton of Indomie Regular Chicken 70g that was N10,650 is now N8,900.

Other items, such as sugar, rice, beans, semo, spaghetti, and macaroni, have also seen price reductions.

Market participants, like Mrs. Debola Tairu at Wuse Market and Umaru Bello at Kaduna Central Market, confirm the decline in Indomie prices, expressing optimism for similar trends in other products.

Analysts suggest that government efforts, such as the Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention, could contribute to curbing food inflation nationwide.
