On 2nd February 2024, Ayodele supposedly vanished from home and sent his father a text(accompanied by photographs of himself tied up and naked in the bush) demanding $20,000 payment via Bitcoin for his release. When the initial demand from Ayodele's father failed to yield results, Dennis orchestrated his own disappearance, hoping his father would pay ransom. They repeated the same tactic, demanding initially $80,000 and then increasing it to $100,000.
Unable to secure any money from their respective families, the two planners emerged from hiding on March 16, 2024, claiming to have escaped from the kidnappers’ den. Ayodele was taken to the hospital for treatment, as his father believed he had been genuinely kidnapped. They were eventually arrested after turning themselves in and confessed to the crime during the investigation. The partners in crime also claimed that Dennis had brought up the idea to extort money from Ayodele's father who worked as a driver in an undisclosed organisation.
