Blackout Hits National Assembly Complex: Lawmakers in Shock

In the earlier hours of Tuesday 5th March, 2024, senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria received an unexpected taste of trenches vibes when the National Assembly Complex experienced blackout for a couple of minutes. The lawmakers had been forced to wait in darkness for the restoration of power supply in order to commence their plenary sessions. Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who commenced the meeting after an eventual power restoration, apologised to the lawmakers for the outage and heat in the chambers while revealing that the power outage had affected about nine offices within the building.

Hilariously reacting to the news and trending photos of the temporary blackout in the Senate complex, netizens mocked the senators for their inability to handle "a little heat" for just a few minutes despite having the nonchalance to leave a huge number of Nigerians with erratic power supply and in some cases, with a complete absence of power supply. Netizens further urged the lawmakers to consider the experience as a wake up call to proffer solutions to the current issues surrounding the provision of stable electricity in the country.
