The United States of America has excluded Nigeria and 17 other countries from applying for the United States of America’s Diversity Visa (DV) popularly known as American Lottery. The registration process which commenced for the fiscal year 2025 aims at offering a special chance for individuals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States. The U.S. Department of State DV lottery program will make up to 55,000 green card numbers available to individuals through random selection.

In addition to Nigeria, the 17 other countries excluded from applying for the Diversity Visa programme include: Bangledesh, Brazil, Canada, China(including mainland and Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominica, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Phillipines, South Korea, Venezuela and Vietnam.
