Nigeria Customs Service to Distribute Seized Commodities to Nigerians

 The Nigerian Customs Service (NCIS) has revealed its intention to distribute food items seized from illegal importers to Nigerian citizens, as a means to alleviate the current harsh economic and financial situation in the country.  In a statement released on Tuesday 20th February, Public Relations Officer of the Service, Abdullahi Maiwada, stated that the items must be certified edible before they would be distributed to citizens across the country as the Nigeria Customs Service remains committed to "safeguarding the nation’s food security and advancing the economic well-being of all Nigerians".

Detailing how the Customs Service intends to achieve an even distribution of these commodities, Mr Maiwada further revealed in his press statement: "The modalities for the disposal will be communicated through NCS formations nationwide, with a firm commitment to transparency, fairness, and public safety. It is our pledge that this exercise will be managed diligently to ensure that the benefits reach those most in need."
