The Department of State Service (DSS) has a lengthy post on its official social media page, implored the Nigeria Labour Congress to halt its planned protest slated for 27th and 28th February, respectively. In the post, the DSS while affirming the legitimacy of the intentions of the Labour Congress, urged the union to put aside the plans of nationwide protest "in the interest of peace and public order".

Urging all parties involved in the planned protest to embrace dialogue and negotiation, the DSS claimed to have received information regarding the intention of some individuals to hijack the protest in order to breed crisis as well as increase tension and foster violence. Advising citizens on the need to be vigilant, the lengthy post by the State Service, called upon parents, civil society, religious, traditional and all other institutions, to exert authority by guarding and warning their children and wards against the dangers of engaging in activities capable of jeopardizing public safety and harmony.
