Although Iris passed away in June 2023, her father's girlfriend was only just arrested in January 2023 after thorough investigation. The tragic incident unfolded on June 25, 2023, when Bailey Jacoby, Iris's father, left the house briefly. While out, he received a call from Owens reporting something wrong with his daughter. Rushing back home, Jacoby found Iris unresponsive, prompting a 911 call. Despite efforts to save her, the toddler succumbed to organ failure four days later.Owens had initially claimed that Iris had hit her head after a fall from the bed due to cramping. However, the autopsy contradicted this, revealing that Iris had ingested various dangerous items months before her death. New Castle Police Chief Robert Salem highlighted the significance of Owens' phone records, describing them as a "crucial piece of evidence." Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry expressed disbelief at the deliberate steps taken to harm an innocent child.
