In an interview with Wazobia FM, Nollywood actor, producer and director, Funke Akindele, has given insight as to her failed marriage with singer and film producer Abdulrasheed Bello, better known as JJ Skillz. Stating that she does not see unpleasant experiences as failures, the actor asserted that she took her failed as it came because her mental health and career are very important and she has to make an impact. While affirming that she cries and gets emotional like any human, Funke Akindele revealed that crying is a temporary process which makes her dust herself up and keep moving forward with her plans and goals for her life.

Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz were married from 2016 until June 2023 when JJC Skillz took to his official Instagram page to announce his separation from his wife. He stated that they had mutually decided to pursue their lives separately. The former husband and wife have two children (a pair of twins born in 2018) together. Prior to his marriage to Funke Akindele, JJC Skillz fathered three children from three different mothers. In March 2023, according to a report by a blogger,Tosin Silverdam, JJC Skillz secretly married an Ebira lady in Kano State.
