Following May Yul Edochie's new year post recounting her ordeal in the year 2023, netizens led by Fab Jewels, wife of celebrity designer, Yomi Casual, have asked her to remove the name "Yul Edochie" from her social media accounts. Labelling May's use of her estranged husband's name as "vexing", Fab Jewels urged her to "grab her own identity and flourish it".

It will be recalled that in 2023, a few months after Yul and May Edochie's 17 year old marriage hit the rocks after Yul publicly declared his extramarital affair with colleague, Judy Austin Moghalu and his assertion of her being his "second wife", the former husband and wife suffered the loss of their eldest and 16 year old son, Kambilichukwu. On the last day of 2023, May and Yul Edochie put up separate posts about their experience for the year with Yul declaring the year his best year and May recounting the death of her son.
