Operatives of the Kano State Hisbah Board have arrested no fewer than 52 tricycle riders (Keke napep) for reportedly spotting immoral haircuts, selling illegal drugs and substances, in addition to giving rides to opposite genders in their tricycles. Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah, Mujahid Aminuddeen, while addressing the 52 arrested tricycle riders on Friday 26th January 2024, urged them to be good ambassadors of Islam and Kano State by shunning social vices. He also stated that the Hisbah Board is dedicated to sanitizing the state from immoral activities like prostitution, drug abuse, overindulgence in alcohol, amongst other vices.

The Kano state Hisbah Corps was established by the state government in 2003 for the purpose of enforcing right and forbidding wrong on every Muslim. Hisbah is an Arabic word which means accountability. Many Nigerians have expressed displeasure at the activities of Hisbah operatives and have also said the Kano state Hisbah Corps has showcased acts of potential human rights violation on a number of occasions. Well-meaning Nigerians have called on the Kano state government to caution the Hisbah Corps on their perceived overzealousness.
