Turkey's Central Bank Governor Moves in With Parents as a Result of Inflation

Governor of Turkey's Central Bank Hafize Gaye Erkan, has revealed that inflation in the property market has made her unable to afford a house in Istanbul, so she had to move in with her parents. The 44 year old bank chief who took up her post in June after two decades in the United States, marvelled at the possibility of real estate and living cost in Turkey being more expensive than Manhattan. Speaking to Hurriyet Newspaper, Hafize Gaye Erkan stated;" We haven’t found a home in Istanbul. It’s terribly expensive. We’ve moved in with my parents." The befuddled finance expert also told the paper that the country is nearing the end of its monetary tightening measures.

The first female governor of the Turkish Central Bank, Hafize Gaye Erkan started her work life serving as a research assistant and an assistant teacher while writing her thesis at Princeton University in the US. In 2005, she joined Goldman Sachs as an associate, and was named managing director and Head of Financial Institutions Group Analytics and Strategies in 2011.
