P&G Announces Plans to Exit Nigeria

 Barely four months after manufacturing company glaxosmithkline, made the decision to move their business out of Nigeria, Procter and Gamble(often referred to as P&G) has announced its intention to follow in the footsteps of gsk. The consumer goods manufacturing company via its CEO Andre Schulten announced this development while speaking at the Morgan Stanley Global Consumer and Retail conference on Tuesday 5th December, 2023. The CEO stated that P&G will be transitioning its Nigerian operations to an import-only model, effectively dissolving its on-ground presence in the country. Andre Schulten further explained that the decision will help the company focus on markets that have the highest potential.

With a staff power of more than five thousand, P&G Nigeria has its head offices in Lagos with a manufacturing plant in Ibadan and another in Agbara, Ogun State. With a strong portfolio of six leading brands: Pampers, Ariel, Always, Oral B, Gillette and Safeguard. According to the company's Chief Financial Officer, Nigeria contributes $50 million in net sales to P&G’s global business.
