A High Court sitting in Zamfara state has sentenced a certain Anas Dahiru to death by hanging for the murder of his friend. According to witness accounts, in the year 2017, Dahiru had stabbed his friend Shamsu Ibrahim, with a knife in the middle of their altercation over a hundred naira note. At the time of fatal stabbing, Dahiru had been a resident of the Unguwar Dallatu area of Gusau in Zamfara State.

Presiding judge, Justice Yusha’u, found Dahiru guilty of culpable homicide and sentenced him to death by hanging as enshrined in Section 221 of the penal code. Speaking with the press at the court premises shortly after judgement was handed to the accused, the prosecution, Barrister Mansur Lawal, Assistant Director, Public Prosecution, Zamfara State ministry of justice, said he welcomed the judgment passed by the court.
