A Facebook user identified as Onoh Chukwuma Richard, has reportedly taken his own life after he lost the sum of 2.5 million naira to betting. According to his post as well as live recording on Facebook, the deceased had on Tuesday 12 December, declared that it was his last day on earth. Hours later, it was discovered that he had ingested the deadly insecticide Sniper, a few minutes before he actually made the post on Facebook. Further reports reveal that Onoh Chukwuma Richard had been rushed to the hospital by friends and relatives where he passed away after doctors' attempt to save him failed.

Investigation as to the reason for the deceased's suicide revealed that he had borrowed the sum of 1.5 million in addition to his life savings of 1 million naira to make up the sum of 2.5 million naira with which he placed failed bets across betting platforms. Onoh Chukwuma Richard was a resident of Umuahia, Abia state at the time of his suicide and Facebook friends and users took to his page to express varying reactions of shock, sorrow and disappointment at the deceased's decision to end his life after he suffered financial ruin.
