Convicted Popular Medical Doctor Begs Appeal Court to Overturn Life Sentence

 Medical Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, Dr Olufemi Olaleye, who was found guilty of rape and given a life sentence by Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on 24th October 2023, has filed an appeal seeking to overturn his sentence. The doctor was found guilty of defilement and sexual penetration of a 15 year old minor who happens to be his wife's niece and received a double life sentence for the rape of the 15 year old minor.

Olaleye, in a notice of appeal filed by his lawyer, Dr Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, on 24th November, said that the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court was wrong to have relied on the evidence presented by the prosecution against him. Dr Olaleye's lawyer cited 35 grounds on which his appeal should be permitted and his sentence overturned. The lawyer also argued that the victim's testimonies were riddled with inconsistencies contradicting prosecutor's evidence. During his trial, the judge had stated that Olaleye’s confessional statement and exchange of WhatsApp and email messages with his wife were enough evidence against him.
