A truck conveying more than 4,600 bottles of alcoholic drinks has been intercepted by the Kano Road and Traffic Agency.
The agency’s Public Relations Officer, Nabilusi Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement released in Kano on Monday said the drinks will be handed over to Hisbah.
In the words of Abubakar:
“The truck, with registration number FGG 407 XB, was apprehended along Ibrahim Taiwo Road around 4 am on Sunday by officers of the agency. Immediately the driver saw the officers of the agency, he parked the truck and ran away.”
Abubakar quoted KAROTA Managing Director, Faisal Kabir, as saying, “Once the investigation is completed, we will hand them (drinks) over to Hisbah Board for necessary action.”

Kabir charged the general public to support the agency in its mandate to ensure the security of the state.
The Kano State government had prohibited the consumption of beer in all parts of the state, with Hisbah, a religious police force in the state, given the mandate to confiscate and destroy bottles of alcoholic beverages in line with the dictates of Sharia law.
