Woman Poisons Boyfriend over $30 Million Fake Inheritance

A 47 year old North Dakota resident identified as Ina Thea Kenoyer, has been charged and arrested on 31st October 2023, for the September 5 murder of her boyfriend, 51 year old Steven Edward Riley Jr. According to police reports, Ina Thea Kenoyer had fatally poisoned Steven after she learned of his plans to end their relationship just a few hours after he inherited the sum of 30 million dollars. The now deceased Steven Edward Riley fell ill while meeting with a lawyer to finalize the details of his inheritance and was taken to the hospital where he eventually passed away.

Kenoyer initially told the authorities that her boyfriend had suffered a heat stroke, though an autopsy later revealed that Mr. Riley had died from poisoning. She also told investigators after Riley’s death that she was entitled to part of the inheritance because she was his “common law” wife and that she planned to split the money with the deceased's son. Unfortunately, North Dakota where the couple resided is not one of the states that recognise "common law" marriages.

Further interaction with the deceased's 21 year old son revealed that the "inheritance" had been an online scam and the person who claimed to be the lawyer handling the inheritance, had been a part of the scamming scheme. Kenoyer has been charged with Class AA Felony Murder and is being held at the Ward County Jail.
